When Ray was five he witnessed his little brother drowning in the tub his mother used to wash clothes. The unlucky streak did not end there.Since he was six years old, Ray had been blind. This was from a retina disease called glaucoma. And when he was fifteen his mom had died. After this he never returned to school and focused on his music career. Ray's Life Music Career FUN FACT For over a year, Ray played the piano for bands at the Ritz Theater in LaVilla, Georgia . He earned $4 per night. After that he moved to Florida to join a band called Florida Playboys. Then later in 1947 Ray moved to Seattle to start his own band , and stop making covers. He soon started recording and made his first hit "Confession Blues" in 1949. Ray started recording in 1953 with Atlantic Records. He recorded songs in types as boogie-woogie and jump blues. As quoted from Billy Joel "This may sound like sacrilege, but I think Ray Charles was more important than Elvis Presley. I don't know if Ray was the architect of rock & roll, but he was certainly the first guy to do a lot of things . . . Who the," heck "ever put so many styles together and made it work?" FUN FACT Georgia On My Mind Ray began his music career in 1946 when his mother had died. This song was the state Song for Georgia. AND HERE IT IS! Bibliography Georgia on My Mind

Radiative zone 3. Convective zone 4. Photosphere 5. Chromosphere 6. Corona 7. Sunspot 8. Granules 9. Prominence This thin layer is the lowest level in the Sun's atmosphere. Energy finally escapes the Sun from the photosphere, so it is significantly cooler than the solar interior. The Corona http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunspot The Granules The Photosphere They are caused by intense magnetic activity, which inhibits convection by an effect comparable to the eddy current brake, forming areas of reduced surface temperature. The image of the Earth is to show the size of the spot compared to the sun. Layers of the sun Breya Hayes, Autumn Ferguson, Kasey Hubble. The layer of the atmosphere above the photosphere is called the chromosphere (meaning “sphere of color”). It is visible as a thin reddish ring around the edge of the Sun during total solar eclipses, when the much brighter photosphere is blocked from view. Imagine that you are the captain of a new vessel specially built to explore the interior of the Sun. We call interior the part of the Sun which is below its surface and therefore is not directly visible to us. The Chromosphere The radiation zone or radiative zone is a layer of a star's interior where energy is primarily transported toward the exterior by means of radiative diffusion, rather than by convection. The Prominence Layers Of Sun Music The chromosphere is surrounded by a faintly luminous, extremely thin outer atmosphere called the corona (meaning “crown”). As the corona is a million times dimmer than the Sun's disk, it is usually invisible. It can be seen only when the light of the photosphere is blocked, as in a total solar eclipse or with a special type of telescope called a coronagraph. The Radiative zone A time-lapse film of the surface of the Sun shows the formation and dissolution of granules, updrafts of gas that form convection cells. Each granule is several hundred miles wide and lives for about 20 minutes before either dissolving or exploding into other granules \ The core produces almost all of the Sun's heat via fusion: the rest of the star is heated by the outward transfer of heat from the core The Core of the sun! This is the prominence The Convection zone

Transcript: Suns energy The Core 1 The Sun's core is the middle region where nuclear reactions consume hydrogen to form helium 27,000,000 degrees Fahrenheit Temperature Temperature The core of the sun is where everything starts. Fusion powers the sun. Fusion is when the atoms of hydrogen must be heated to very high temperatures so they can have enough energy to fuse with another. When you fuse two hydrogen you get helium. A by product of fusion is a photon, or a chunk of light. Fusion Fusion Radiation Zone 2 The Sun's radiative zone is the section in the sun between the innermost core and the outer convective zone. Energy generated by nuclear fusion in the core moves outward as electromagnetic radiation 3,500,000 degrees Fahrenheit Temperature Temperature Deep in the radiative zone, the photons collide with plasma particles and change direction in random ways. Photon Traveling Photon Traveling Convection Zone 3 It goes from 200,000 km deep up to the visible surface of the Sun. Energy is transported by convection in this region. 3,500,000 degrees fahrenheit Temperature Temperature All the energy emitted at the surface of the sun is transported there by convection. Fusion traveling Fusion traveling Photosphere 4 The photosphere is the visible surface of the Sun that most people know about. Since the Sun is a ball of gas, this is not a solid surface but is actually a layer about 100 km thick. Sunspots are temporary incident on the Sun's photosphere that appear as spots darker than the surrounding areas Sunspots Sunspots Chromospere 5 The chromosphere is the second of the three main layers in the Sun's edge and is 3,000 to 5,000 kilometers deep. Coroha 6 The Sun's corona extends millions of kilometres into space and is most easily seen during a total solar eclipse. 7 The sun is 4.6 billlion years old The sun is about halfway through the main sequence The sun will be able to give us energy for about another 5 billion years
